Our non-destructive testing division combines radiography (x-ray), dye-penetrant, mag-particle, and ultrasonic testing to provide our clients with the most complete NDT Services in the Bay Area. TEI has x-rayed everything from ship hulls to fire-damaged electonics, providing important visual clues as to cause of damage.
Our dye-penetrant and mag-particle testing is used extensively by manufacturers for quality control, particularly on large steel fabrications. Radiography is utilized to detect flaws in critical welded joints, and in machined assemblies.
Aside from quality control in manufacturing process, the NDT division is often called to construction sites to locate with extreme precision objects buried in hardened concrete. As with the scanning capabilities of the consulting department, radiography is often used to determine the location of post-tensioning strands, either to avoid them during subsequent construction, or to locate areas to be repaired.
Our ultrasonic and mag-particle technicians are able to give some insight to the quality of existing welds in historic or older structures undergoing renovation. When Structural Engineers are designing retrofit options, they will want to know the condition of the existing structure, and NDT services can help provide those answers.
